The overall mission of Holliston Community Action (HCAF), a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is to unite the community of Holliston in a collective effort to help those who are less fortunate and to support actions that will make Holliston a better place to live for all. We do this through 3 services:
1. Emergency Assistance: Do you know anyone who recently has had a crisis or a financial setback and is unable to pay a bill or provide a specific need for a child? The HCAF raises money to provide timely emergency financial assistance to qualified applicants. Grants are applied for under strict confidentiality through the Holliston Department of Youth and Family Services (DYFS). This grant fund was originated with the Holliston Business Association in 2009 and now operates as an independent non-profit. To date the fund has provided over 50 emergency grants totalling over $15,000.
2. Supporting Community Betterment: The HCAF raises money and provides service support to organziations, activities, programs or causes that they deem will improve the overall quality of life for the community. The HCAF also can plan and sponsor their own community betterment activities with assistance from other organizations. Some examples could be supporting the substance abuse program or planning and funding the creation of a youth activity center.
3. Students Taking Action: The HCAF organizes, mentors and supervises a "Student Division" of the organization which consists of students in the community ranging from age 12-22. The Community Action Fund-Student Division (CAF-SD) provides oversight and guidance to a student-led group that is charged with organizing, planning, staffing and executing fund raisers or awareness programs that support the HCAF mission. There are no restrictions or requirements to join and all are welcome. It allows the youth of our community to take an active and positive role in shaping the future.
